What's Up at the SFVACC for December

Here we are at the last month of 2018.  How did that happen so suddenly?  Come listen to some fabulous jazz on Saturday, Dec. 15 as the December Jazz Muse Concert Series presents “The Look of Love: the Burt Bacharach Songbook”.  Janis Mann joins famed jazz and Bacharach session pianist Jim Cox along with Bacharach alum John Ferraro on drums and Domenic Genova on bass for a tribute to the famed composer.  It's sure to get you in the holiday mood.  Our always popular "Uncommon Threads III" exhibit opened on Tuesday, Nov. 27 and run through Saturday, Dec. 22.  For wonderfully creative and artsy gifts, be sure to shop at the Uncommon Threads Marketplace.   Don't forget the SFV Audubon Society's year-end celebration, "Birds & Beer" on Saturday, Dec. 22.  This fun affair happens after the annual Christmas bird count.  There will be a one week exhibit of Ira Dubov's paintings during our hiatus from Dec. 24, 2018 - Jan. 1, 2019.  This will be her first U.S. exhibition.

SFVACC Rates are Changing

We will be raising our rates in 2019.  We have kept the same rates since 2016 and now with our annual raise in rent, we thought it the right time to do this.  Rates for organization meetings will be $40 per hour, the exhibit rate will be $2,800 and event rates will be $50 per hour for daytime and $60 per hour for evenings.  We have tried to keep our rates as low as we possibly could, but with rising utility rates and costs of supplies, we need to make sure we can keep the Center open another 5 years.  We will be signing another 5 year lease in June 2019.

2018 is a Banner Year for SFVACC

Have you seen them yet?  They are flying overhead on Reseda Blvd., just south of Oxnard St. and also along the south side of Oxnard between Reseda and Etiwanda.  It's so exciting to see our 15 artists' names and art on these banners.  We have a few more streetlights on our permitted routes, so we will be selecting a few more artists soon. The banners will be up for at least a year and we are hoping that they will guide more visitors to our Center.

"Uncommon Threads" back for a third year

The Third Annual "Uncommon Threads" exhibit and Marketplace opened on Tuesday, November 27 with a reception on Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5 - 8 pm.  Our two organizations, Frayed Edges and Surface Art Association will present fiber art from 25 different artists.  The exhibit closes on Saturday, Dec. 22.  This is our end-of-the-year exhibit that makes anyone who experiences it smile.

Calling all Volunteers!

The SFVACC has started a new concept for sitting the Center.  We will be putting together a team of professional docents to watch over the Center during our exhibits.  These docents will be trained in everything they need to know about running the Center and being a welcoming representative behind the reception desk. Organizations can also have their members keep our professional docents company, if they so wish.  We will need to fill forty 3-hour shifts during each of our 2019 4-week exhibits. So think about joining our team and immerse yourself in all that creative energy at the Center!  Click here for the application.  SFAVCC VOLUNTEER DOCENT APPLICATION.docx  For sitters already on our schedule, please click on sitter mobile login  sitter calendar
